Colostrum helps your child develop appropriate immune and inflammatory responses.  As they grow, colostrum continues to contribute to their immune health and growth. Just six weeks of daily colostrum has been shown to promote a healthy gut lining, which makes probiotics and nutrients more bioavailable.*  Colostrum used in UpSpring Probiotic + Colostrum is the highest quality bovine colostrum available. It is collected within hours after the birth of a calf, from USDA Grade A dairies. The cows giving birth are free from antibiotics and hormones, and their feed is certified free from pesticides. Every batch of colostrum is laboratory tested for purity and quality.
Our Label
Those Big Words On Our Label Mean We’ve Done Our Homework We believe in complete transparency, but we won’t insult your intelligence by dumbing things down. You’ll see each and every strain of probiotics we use listed on the label, using their proper scientific designations. (And they said Latin was a dead language!) Plus we list exactly what kind of prebiotics are included, and every other ingredient too.    How To Use Probiotic + Colostrum For infants 0 to 4 months, use ½ packet per day. For infants 4 months up to 12 years of age, use 1 full packet daily. Mix with cool or room temperature food or beverage. Do not add to hot food or drink as that will kill the live bacteria in the probiotic. Refrigerate or store in a cool dry place.  Sizing info: 30 packets   Made in USA
Real Science
Bacteria Can Be Your Child’s Best Friend. Really. We’re on the cusp of a health revolution. For generations, we’ve been fighting against germs to keep us healthy. But now we know that you can’t just guard against the bad bugs; you have to make sure you have plenty of good bacteria as well. We have ten times more bacteria in our bodies than cells, most of it in the gut, and most of it friendly. (Who knew?) Gut bacteria are involved in digestion, immune function, cognitive function, mood, cell signaling, and more. (Think of them as worker bees, only a lot smaller.) Immune function is of particular interest, since 70-80% of the body’s immune system resides in the gut, and interacts constantly with gut bacteria.  Healthy gut bacteria are needed from birth to support a healthy digestive tract and immune system.  Babies born vaginally inherit their mothers’ bacteria, and also get probiotics in their mothers’ breast milk. For a variety of reasons, some babies don’t inherit optimally balanced bacteria: they were born by c-section, they or their mother were taking antibiotics at the time of their birth, or their mothers had dysbiosis. (Don’t beat yourself up, mama. Medical science is only now just figuring this out, and not everyone’s gotten the memo.) When it comes to the number of different bacterial strains found in the gut, more is better. A Danish study involving almost 300 individuals demonstrated that the more diverse the gut flora, the greater the overall health of the individual.  A recently published review study reached similar conclusions: diversity of intestinal bacteria is associated with better health using standard health markers.  Infancy, and childhood, is an opportune time to provide beneficial bacteria to your child in the form of probiotics, according to researchers. Studies show that probiotics can improve bacterial balance, support intestinal function and a healthy intestinal barrier, and promote a healthy immune response.     Colostrum … It’s Not Just For Newborns  Babies are born with immature immune systems; colostrum helps to provide the immune defenses a little one needs. Colostrum, whether from mothers’ milk or a bovine source like our Probiotic + Colostrum, helps your child develop appropriate immune and inflammatory responses.  As they grow, colostrum continues to contribute to their immune health and growth. The benefits of colostrum aren’t just limited to newborns. Colostrum from bovine sources has been used in healing traditions in India for millennia, and was used to address health concerns in cultures throughout the world up until the antibiotic era. Individuals at any stage of life can benefit from colostrum’s constituents.     When you give your child colostrum, you’re giving nourishment to help stay healthy from day one. Here’s why:
  • Colostrum contains lactoferrin, which helps the body’s immune defenses and supports an appropriate inflammatory response.
  • Lactoferrin also helps to nourish bifidobacteria, a probiotic, in the gut.  (Three strains of beneficial Bifidobacteria are included in UpSpring’s Probiotic + Colostrum. How handy is that!)
  • Proline-rich peptide (PRP for short) interacts with the thymus gland, helping it to balance the immune response and stimulate gut repair.
  • The immunoglobulins found in bovine colostrum are beneficial for humans and other mammalian species.  Immunoglobulins are types of antibodies, which are an important part of the body’s immune defenses.
  • One advantage of bovine colostrum compared to human colostrum is that it contains ten times more of the antibody IgG (immunoglobulin G).
  • Colostrum contains growth factors that support the body’s growth and repair.  One in particular, Epithelial Growth Factor, promotes healthy growth and integrity of the gut lining, ultimately helping the body to absorb more nutrients.*
  • When colostrum is administered orally, it has an almost instant effect. It interacts with saliva, which in turn initiates communication with the body’s immune response through the oral tissues.
What's Inside
Six – Count ‘Em – Six Probiotic Strains Plus Colostrum (the sample includes 5 individual packets) Diversity in bacterial strains is a good thing … and UpSpring Probiotic + Colostrum provides six of the most-studied strains that are shown to be beneficial for intestinal and immune health including Lactobacillus which is the most clinically studied probiotic. Plus, you get prebiotics in the form of fructooligosaccharides (can you say that three times fast?) from chicory root.
What's not Inside
We’re Committed to Clean Supplements When you give your baby a supplement, you want only truly beneficial ingredients. That’s why UpSpring Probiotic + Colostrum is gluten-free, hormone-free and non-GMO, with no artificial anything!
What is the serving size, or dose, for Probiotic + Colostrum? If your baby is 0 to 4 months, we recommend one half packet per day. For babies older than 4 months, use one full packet daily.    How often should I give my baby a dose? For ongoing immune and digestive support, give your baby one dose per day.     What is the best way to give my baby the Probiotic + Colostrum powder? Since the powder is flavorless, you’ve got options! Mix it into any cool liquid or soft food that your baby enjoys.     Does this need to be refrigerated after opening? No, but it’s preferable.     How did you choose the probiotic strains for this product?   We went with the science. (Hey, it’s what we do.) Bifidobacterium and Lactobacillus are two of the most-researched genera (that’s the plural of genus, in case you skipped Latin class in high school) of bacteria. There are well over a hundred recognized species and subspecies. The strains included in Probiotic + Colostrum are carefully chosen for their clinically shown benefits for digestive support and immune health.    What are CFUs? CFU stands for Colony Forming Unit; it’s a measure of potency and refers to the number of live cultures per serving. (If they’re dead, they can’t help you.) With 6 probiotic strains (plus prebiotics) and 5 billion CFUs per serving, UpSpring Probiotic + Colostrum is the most complete probiotic available for babies. (5 billion strong is almost as good as “I love you times infinity.”)    What is a prebiotic? Probiotics, or friendly bacteria, are living, one-celled life forms. Like all life forms, they need a source of nourishment. Prebiotics, typically found in non-digestible food fiber, feed the probiotics so they can thrive in the intestines. Many people don’t get enough prebiotics (through fiber) in their diet. A supplement that includes prebiotics helps ensure the probiotics will be more effective.   Can I mix the powder into a liquid or food in advance? Probiotics thrive under very specific conditions in the intestines. If they are exposed to moisture apart from that environment, they begin to die quickly. Once mixed into food or liquid, they have a limited amount of time to reach their destination before die off becomes a problem. To ensure you get the highest potency, mix into food or liquid just before serving.     Why bovine colostrum? I thought babies only needed colostrum from their mothers, and only for the first few days after birth. Bovine colostrum is very similar to human colostrum, and confers the same type of immune and growth supporting benefits. In many cultures, bovine colostrum is used to support health at all stages of life. Colostrum is a great way to ensure your baby is well equipped to build a strong immune system and well nourished with growth factors during these months of rapid development.    If my baby is allergic to dairy, will colostrum be a problem for her? Colostrum is a type of dairy, so anyone with dairy allergies should avoid it.    Do hormones or antibiotics from the cow make it into the colostrum?   We source our colostrum from cows that have no antibiotics or supplemental hormones in their system at the time of calving. In addition, their feed is free from pesticides. The food chain is carefully documented and certified so that you can have peace of mind you’re getting only the cleanest, purest colostrum.
