Paternal, or male, contribution is as essential as the maternal role in producing a healthy baby.  One of the most important factors to consider when preparing for a child is both sperm quantity and quality for fertilization of the mother’s egg cell or ovum.  Sperm quality can be impacted by poor nutrition and lack of adequate antioxidants, as well as environmental toxins and stress.

HeNatal was developed by a physician and is designed to help provide nutrients that are essential to sperm quality, to combat the high oxidative stress associated with male infertility and support the window of opportunity of sperm turnover to produce healthy sperm prior to conception.*

Studies have shown folate and antioxidant supplementation can have a positive impact on overall sperm health and quality, which helps support conception.*

How To Use UpSpring HeNatal?

Adult males begin taking HeNatal at least 90 days prior to conception to help improve sperm quality and continue taking until conception occurs, or up to one year.

While the male partner is taking HeNatal, it is important that the female take a high-quality prenatal vitamin to ensure her body has the optimum nutrients it needs from the moment conception is achieved.*

Male Infertility and Sperm Quality

In the U.S., approximately 12-13% of couples experience infertility (HHS.gov). According to the National Institutes of Health, 1 in 3 infertility cases stem from male reproductive health.

Sperm quality and health are key to male fertility. Because new sperm are produced every 42-76 days, there is a real window of opportunity to improve sperm quality prior to conception.  Certain nutrients enable epigenetic methylation of genes and are involved in production of sperm, as well as in sperm shape, motility, and quantity. These nutrients, which can fall short in the male diet, are found in HeNatal at the levels found favorable in clinical studies surrounding male infertility.

The Physician Behind The Formula

UpSpring's HeNatal Male Preconception supplement was formulated by Marianne J. Legato, MD, Ph. D. (hon. c.), FACP. Dr. Legato is an internationally renowned academic, physician, author, lecturer, and pioneer in the field of gender-specific medicine. She is a Professor Emerita of Clinical Medicine at Columbia University College of Physicians & Surgeons and an Adjunct Professor of Medicine at Johns Hopkins Medical School. Dr. Legato is also the Director of the Foundation for Gender-Specific Medicine, which she founded in 2006 as a continuation of her work with The Partnership for Gender-Specific Medicine at Columbia University. She received an honorary PhD from the University of Panama in 2015 for her work on the differences between men and women.

At its core, gender-specific medicine is the science of how normal human biology differs between men and women and how the diagnosis and treatment of disease differs as a function of gender. Dr. Legato’s discoveries and those of her colleagues have led to a personalization of medicine that assists doctors worldwide in understanding the difference in normal function of men and women and in their sex-specific experiences of the same diseases.

Through her extensive work in gender-specific medicine, Dr. Legato understands the vital importance of male health and wellness and how it impacts conception and the health of future generations.
